How to use aud.ourch.at
This one is a bit complicated, since Funkwhale is the first product of its kind.
What does Funkwhale do?
Funkwhale does three main things:
- Host music files, with four levels of privacy:
- Private to you
- Other people on our server can listen
- Anyone who follows you can listen
- Everyone in the world can listen
- Share audio posts on a social ActivityPub feed (mainly for artists)
- See each other's listening activity (mainly for listeners)
How do I listen to stuff?
The simplest way is to do it using the funkwhale interface itself, which you can use on aud.ourch.at
However, I highly recommend using a third party app through the "subsonic API"! I use Amperfy.
To listen using a third-party app through the Subsonic API, just click your profile icon, go to settings, scroll down to "Subsonic API password", and generate a password. Then, use the code you generated to log into the server on your app.
Limitations
Please don't bulk upload more than a maximum of about 15 files at once!!
Funkwhale doesn't queue them and upload one at a time, it actually will try to upload hundreds of files at the exact same time if you ask it to, and that won't work!
- Audio uploads are required to have at least the following fields in the metadata:
- Title (The track title)
- Artist (The contributing artist)
- Album
- If you upload a file missing one of those fields, it will fail
