How to use mastodon on mic.ourch.at

It works much like twitter, but with a few quirks and limitations.

Posts from other servers won't backfill, with the exception of pinned posts. You will only get posts from the time you subscribe onward.
When you edit or delete posts, it might take a bit of time for those commands to reach other servers, which won't be totally synchronous.
Mastodon does not support ephemeral/temporary posts. This is annoying to me because I feel that "stories" are an important part of the social media experience that's missing from the fediverse, (with the exception of servers running Pixelfed, but it's limited).
